Establishing a bluetooth classic connection using an existing bluetooth low energy connection

A method for enabling a second computing device to establish a Bluetooth Classic (BTC) connection with a first computing device, the method comprising:

• by the second computing device that has an existing Bluetooth Low Energy (BTLE) connection with the first computing device:
• receiving, from the first computing device via the BTLE connection, clock information associated with the first computing device;
• receiving, from the first computing device via the BTLE connection, a link layer (LL) BTC connection request;
• transmitting, to the first computing device and over the BTLE connection, an LL BTC response indicating that the LL BTC connection request is accepted by the second computing device;
• and
• establishing the BTC connection with the first computing device.

A computing device comprising:

• a Bluetooth module configurable for communication in accordance with a Bluetooth Classic (BTC) protocol or a Bluetooth Low Energy (BTLE) protocol;
• and a processor in data communication with memory storing instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the computing device to:
• detect a trigger to establish a BTC connection with a second computing device, wherein a BTLE connection exists between the computing device and the second computing device;
• and
• in response to the trigger:
• communicate, to the second computing device via the BTLE connection, clock information associated with the computing device,
• communicate, to the second computing device via the BTLE connection, a link layer (LL) BTC connection request,
• receive, from the second computing device via the BTLE connection, an LL BTC response indicating whether the LL BTC connection request is accepted by the second computing device, and
• establish the BTC connection with the second computing device,
• when the LL BTC connection request is accepted.
