Adaptive remote control

A method comprising:

• receiving, by a remote control device, a first data indicative of a content presenting state of a media device;
• causing an input assembly of the remote control device to display a first graphic, the first graphic indicative of a movement function of the media device;
• transmitting, in response to detecting a selection gesture on the input assembly, information indicative of performing a first movement function to the media device, wherein a degree of movement for the movement function is one unit of movement;
• and
• transmitting, in response to detecting a swipe gesture on the input assembly, information indicative of performing a second movement function to the media device, wherein the degree of movement is based at least in part on a property of the swipe gesture.

A remote control device comprising:

• an input assembly comprising a gesture sensing layer and a display layer;
• and
• one or more memories comprising processor-executable instructions that, upon execution, cause the remote control device to at least:
• receive information indicative of a content presenting state of a media device;
• update the display layer to be indicative of a first function of the media device in the content presenting state;
• transmit, in response to a first detection of a gesture by the gesture sensing layer, information indicative of performing the first function;
• receive information indicative of an additional state of the media device;
• update the display layer to be indicative of an additional function of the media device in the additional state;
• and
• transmit, in response to an additional detection of the gesture by the gesture sensing layer, information indicative of performing the additional function.
