An electronic component which can achieve a reduced number of members and a reduced number of manufacturing steps. The electronic component includes: a body configured from a ceramic, which has a first part and a second part that has a lower surface resistivity than the surface resistivity of the first part; and an external electrode formed on the surface of the second part.

An electronic component comprising:
- a body configured from a ceramic, the body including a first part and a second part that has a lower surface resistivity than a surface resistivity of the first part;
- and
- an external electrode formed on a surface of the second part.
A method for manufacturing an electronic component, the method comprising:
- forming a body configured from a ceramic, the body including a first part and a second part that has a lower surface resistivity than a surface resistivity of the first part;
- and
- forming an external electrode by electroplating on a surface of the second part.
