Abstract
Electronic files are selectively assigned to a plurality of different indexing queues by one or more dynamic throughput threshold gates based on characteristics of the different indexing queues as well as the static file characteristics associated with each of the files. The files are then indexed. Upon detecting a change in a dynamic characteristic of one or more indexed files, the throughput threshold gate(s) are then modified to obtain, maintain or modify a desired throughput for one or more of the indexing queues.
Claims20
A computing system comprising:
- at least one processor;
- at least one storage medium having stored computer-executable instructions which, when executed by the at least one processor, implement a method dynamically modifying throughput thresholds for indexing queues, the method including:
- an act of identifying a throughput threshold gate for indexing files, the throughput threshold gate specifying throughput threshold requirements for assigning new files to different indexing queues based on static file characteristics of the new files, the different indexing queues including a primary indexing queue and one or more secondary indexing queues;
- an act of identifying a file having particular static file characteristics;
- an act of determining the particular static file characteristics;
- an act of assigning the file to either the primary indexing queue or the one or more secondary indexing queues based on the throughput threshold and the particular static file characteristics of the file;
- an act of detecting a change in a dynamic characteristic of one or more indexed files;
- and
- based on the detected change in the dynamic characteristic of the one or more indexed files, dynamically modifying the throughput threshold gate.
One or more hardware storage device having stored computer-executable instructions which, when executed by the at least one processor of a computer system, implement a method for dynamically modifying throughput thresholds for indexing queues, the method including:
- an act of identifying a throughput threshold gate for indexing files, the throughput threshold gate specifying requirements for assigning new files to different indexing queues based on static file characteristics of the new files, the different indexing queues including a primary indexing queue and one or more secondary indexing queues;
- an act of identifying a file having particular static file characteristics;
- an act of determining the particular static file characteristics;
- an act of the throughput threshold gate assigning the file to either the primary indexing queue or the one or more secondary indexing queues based on the throughput threshold requirements and the particular static file characteristics of the file;
- an act of detecting a change in a dynamic characteristic of one or more indexed files;
- and
- based on the detected change in the dynamic characteristic of the one or more indexed files, modifying the throughput threshold gate to specify different throughput threshold requirements.
A computing system comprising:
- at least one processor;
- at least one storage medium having stored computer-executable instructions which, when executed by the at least one processor, implement a method for dynamically modifying throughput thresholds for indexing queues, the method including:
- an act of identifying throughput thresholds for indexing files, the throughput thresholds specifying requirements for assigning new files to different indexing queues based on static file characteristics of the new files, the different indexing queues including a primary indexing queue and one or more secondary indexing queues;
- an act of identifying one or more value of one or more indexing variables;
- an act of determining that a change is needed for at least one of the throughput thresholds based at least in part on determining the one or more value is outside of a predetermined range associated with a historical data value and upon determining a time threshold has been exceeded in which the one or more value is outside of the predetermined range associated with the historical data value;
- and
- an act of modifying the throughput threshold such that different requirements are required for a new file to be assigned to the primary indexing queue or the one or more secondary indexing queues.
