A mobile terminal comprising:
- a display unit;
- a touch sensor configured to sense a tap applied to the display unit;
- and
- a controller configured to control at least one of functions executable in the mobile terminal when a pre-set type of tap is applied to the display unit,
- wherein in a deactivated state of the display unit, the touch sensor is driven at a first period to sense the tap, and in a activated state of the display unit, the touch sensor is driven at a second period different from the first period to sense the tap, and
- when the touch sensor activated at the first period senses a first tap and a second tap continuously applied to the display unit within a limited time, the controller activates the deactivated display unit and activates the touch sensor at the second period.
