Abstract
A device for measuring optical properties is disclosed. The measuring device comprises an optical fiber provided with a first end and an opposite second end, and a light source emitting measurement light incident on the first end. The measurement light is of a numerical aperture such that an insertion loss corresponds to an insertion loss according to a steady mode excitation of the optical fiber.
Claims18
A device for measuring optical properties, comprising:
- an optical fiber provided with a first end and an opposite second end;
- and
- a light source emitting measurement light incident on the first end, the measurement light of a numerical aperture NAβ such that an insertion loss Lβ corresponds to an insertion loss Lα according to a steady mode excitation of the optical fiber.
A method for measuring optical properties, comprising:
- determining a steady mode excitation insertion loss Lα of an optical fiber;
- measuring an insertion loss Lβ of the optical fiber for a range of numerical apertures NA of incident light on the optical fiber;
- calculating a numerical aperture NAβ such that the insertion loss Lβ corresponds to the steady mode excitation insertion loss Lα.
