Visualization of beam trajectories in radiation therapy

A radiation therapy system comprising:

• a therapeutic apparatus configured for delivery of a therapeutic beam of radiation to tissue of a patient;
• a monitoring apparatus configured to monitor production of biomarkers within the tissue during the delivery of the therapeutic beam, the biomarkers comprising at least one of free radicals, burst vesicles, dissociation of an adduct and an indication of changes in or damage to a biomolecule or tissue;
• and
• an apparatus for delivery of a secondary beam of microwave radiation for pre-alignment of the therapeutic beam.

A method for providing radiation therapy, the method comprising:

• determining a treatment plan for delivering radiation to a tissue of a patient;
• selecting a radiation therapy system that comprises a therapeutic apparatus configured for delivery of a therapeutic beam of radiation to tissue of a patient, a monitoring apparatus configured to monitor production of biomarkers within the tissue during the delivery of the therapeutic beam, and an apparatus for delivery of a secondary beam of microwave radiation, the biomarkers comprising at least one of free radicals, burst vesicles, dissociation of an adduct and an indication of protein damage;
• delivering the secondary beam along a trajectory of the therapeutic beam to pre-align the therapeutic beam;
• and
• delivering the therapeutic beam of radiation to the patient with the radiation therapy system.

A computer program product for controlling radiation therapy, the computer program product comprising machine executable instructions stored on machine readable media, the product comprising instructions for:

• delivering a secondary beam of microwave radiation along a trajectory of a therapeutic beam of radiation to pre-align the therapeutic beam;
• delivering the therapeutic beam along the trajectory after pre-alignment;
• receiving information descriptive of production of free radicals within tissue of a patient during radiation therapy, the free radicals resulting from the therapeutic beam;
• comparing the production to a treatment plan;
• and
• controlling the radiation therapy according to results of the comparison.
