Described herein are materials and methods of treating dry eye disease in a subject.

A method of treating dry eye disease (DED) in a human comprising:
- administering a composition comprising a tyrosine kinase inhibitor that inhibits the activity of VEGFR-3 and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier to the human subject, in an amount effective to treat dry eye disease.
