System and method for diagnosis and assessment of disc derangement disorders

A system for assessing disc derangement disorders (DDD) in patients comprising:

• an image scanning module being configured to provide at least one image of a temporomandibular joint (TMJ) of the patients;
• a disc derangement disorders (DDD) screening system being in communication with the image scanning module via a network, the DDD screening system including an application server residing on a computer having a processor installed with a disc derangement disorders (DDD) screening application and coupled with a memory unit integrated with a central database, the DDD screening system comprising:
• a calibrate measurement scale module, at the processor, being configured to calibrate a measurement scale to provide an accurate measurement of the at least one image;
• an adjust pixelation gradient module, at the processor, being configured to enable clear visualization of a horizontal line and a vertical line of the at least one image by adjusting pixelation of the at least one image;
• an identification module, at the processor, being configured to identify a plurality of measurable critical points of for initiating automatic measurement;
• an angle-line measuring module, at the processor, being configured to measure a plurality of measurable components of the at least one image;
• a calculation module, at the processor, being configured to automatically calculate ratios, the ratios include an anterior aspect of glenoid fossa height and width ratio, a posterior aspect of articular eminence width and height ratio, a mandibular condyle a mandibular condyle height and width ratio, a condylar head mediolateral dimension and anterioposterior dimension ratio and a mandibular condyle posterior angle and anterior angle ratio;
• a normalization module, at the processor, being configured to generate a normalized measurement of the at least one image to assess unilateral and bilateral anterior disc displacement that pertaining to the morphology of an articular eminence, a glenoid fossa, and a mandibular condyle;
• a first archive data module, at the processor, being configured to archive the normalized measurement of the at least one image;
• an index probability module, at the processor, being configured to provide a set of statistical probability data of the at least one image to evaluate the presence and absence of the disc derangement disorders (DDD) in the dental patients based on morphological differences of the TMJ in males and females;
• a second archive data module, at the processor, being configured to archive the set of statistical probability data of the at least one image;
• and
• a diagnosis and assessment module being configured to generate a diagnosis and assessment report by analyzing the set of statistical probability data of the at least one image obtained from the index probability module;
• whereby the disc derangement disorders (DDD) screening application allows the DDD screening system to evaluate a severity level assessment, a potential risk level and to confirm a normality according to the set of statistical probability data of the at least one image.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium having a computer-readable program code embodied therein which when executed by a computer having a processor installed with a disc derangement disorders (DDD) screening application and coupled with a memory unit integrated with a central database to implement a method for assessing disc derangement disorders (DDD) in patients, the method comprising the steps of:

• a) loading at least one input image of a temporomandibular joint (TMJ) of patients obtained from an image scanning module into an DDD screening system utilizing the disc derangement disorders (DDD) screening application;
• b) providing a measurement scale to attain a measurement of the at least one image by a measurement scale module located at the processor of the DDD screening system;
• c) enabling the visualization of a horizontal line and a vertical line by adjusting pixilation of the at least one image by the adjust pixelation gradient module located at the processor of the DDD screening system;
• d) identifying a plurality of measurable points of the at least one image to initiate measurement by an identification module located at the processor of the DDD screening system;
• e) determining a plurality of measurable components of at least one image by a measuring module located at the processor of the DDD screening system;
• f) calculating ratios by a module located at the processor of the DDD screening system;
• g) generating a measurement to assess disc displacement;
• h) storing the measurement of at least one image to a first module located at the processor of the DDD screening system;
• i) providing a set of statistical probability data of the at least one image to evaluate the disc derangement disorders (DDD) in the patients;
• j) storing the set of statistical probability data of at least one image at the second module located at the processor of the DDD screening system;
• and
• k) generating a report by analyzing the set of statistical probability data of the at least one image by a diagnosis and assessment module.
