Abstract
The invention includes compositions and methods of using meroterpene esters for effectively modulating skin cell function and remediating undesirable skin conditions, as well as the use of such compositions in the treatment of systemic diseases, such as cancer and in nutritional, dermatologic and cosmetic applications, through topical and transbuccal delivery as well as by ingestion, injection or inhalation.

A composition comprising an esterified meroterpene, wherein
- the ester portion of the esterified meroterpene is selected from a ferulic ester, acetylsalicylic ester, salicylic ester, or a combination thereof;
- and
- the meroterpene portion of the esterified meroterpene is selected from bakuchiol, hydroxybakuchiol, corylifolin, or a combination thereof.
A method of administering an esterified meroterpene composition, wherein
- the ester portion of the esterified meroterpene is selected from a ferulic ester, acetylsalicylic ester, salicylic ester, or a combination thereof;
- the meroterpene portion of the esterified meroterpene is selected from bakuchiol, hydroxybakuchiol, corylifolin, or a combination thereof;
- and
- the composition may be administered as a topical, pulmonary, intranasal, transoral, epidermal, transdermal, oral or parenteral composition.
A method of lightening the color of a meroterpene preparation by substituting the meroterpene partial or completely with an esterified meroterpene, wherein
- the ester portion of the esterified meroterpene is selected from a ferulic ester, acetylsalicylic ester, salicylic ester, or a combination thereof;
- and
- the meroterpene portion of the esterified meroterpene is selected from bakuchiol, hydroxybakuchiol, corylifolin, or a combination thereof.
A method of improving PUVA therapy by substituting or complementing a psoralene-containing drug with an esterified meroterpene, wherein
- the ester portion of the esterified meroterpene is selected from a ferulic ester, acetylsalicylic ester, salicylic ester, or a combination thereof;
- and
- the meroterpene portion of the esterified meroterpene is selected from bakuchiol, hydroxybakuchiol, corylifolin, or a combination thereof.
