Abstract
A method and apparatus for requesting uplink resources in a wireless communication system is provided. A user equipment determines whether a scheduling request for requesting uplink resources is triggered. If the scheduling request is triggered, the user equipment transmits a first set of frequency domain sequences and a second set of frequency domain sequences in a subframe.

1-12. (canceled)
A method for receiving a scheduling request in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:
- receiving, by a base station, from a user equipment, a plurality of second sequences to represent the transmission of the scheduling request over a plurality of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols;
- and
- transmitting, by the base station, to the user equipment, uplink resource information to assign an uplink resource to be used for uplink data transmission;
- wherein the plurality of second sequences are generated by multiplying a plurality of first sequences by an orthogonal sequence,
- wherein the plurality of first sequences for the plurality of OFDM symbols are generated by cyclically shifting a base sequence,
- wherein a cyclic shift value of the base sequence corresponding to each of the plurality of first sequences is determined based on a corresponding one of the plurality of OFDM symbols, and
- wherein the orthogonal sequence is determined based on a number of the plurality of OFDM symbols.
A base station for receiving a scheduling request in a wireless communication system, the base station comprising:
- a memory;
- and
- a processor operatively coupled with the memory and configured to:
- receive, from a user equipment, a plurality of second sequences to represent the transmission of the scheduling request over a plurality of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols;
- and
- transmit, to the user equipment, uplink resource information to assign an uplink resource to be used for uplink data transmission;
