Method and apparatus for allocating ip parameter

A method for allocating an Internet Protocol (IP) parameter, the method comprising:

• receiving, by a trusted WLAN access gateway (TWAG), a dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) server indication, wherein the DHCP server indication indicates whether the TWAG serves as a DHCP server;
• if the DHCP server indication indicates that the TWAG does not serve as the DHCP server, sending, by the TWAG to a packet data network gateway (P-GW), a DHCP request message which is received from a user equipment (UE);
• receiving, by the TWAG, a DHCP response message from the P-GW, wherein the DHCP response message corresponds to the DHCP request message and includes an IP parameter of the user equipment;
• and
• sending, by the TWAG, the DHCP response message to the user equipment.

An apparatus for allocating an Internet Protocol (IP) parameter, the apparatus comprising:

• a receiver, configured to receive a dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) server indication, wherein the DHCP server indication indicates whether a trusted WLAN access gateway (TWAG) serves as a DHCP server;
• a transmitter, configured to:
• if the DHCP server indication indicates that the TWAG does not serve as the DHCP server, send, to a packet data network gateway (P-GW), a DHCP request message which is received from a user equipment (UE);
• wherein the receiver is further configured to receive a DHCP response message from the P-GW, wherein the DHCP response message corresponds to the DHCP request message and includes an IP parameter of the UE;
• and
• wherein the transmitter is further configured to send the DHCP response message to the UE.
