Abstract
A method of operation of a navigation system having mileage mechanism includes providing a subtotal mileage for a previous location reading along a route; calculating an incremental mileage at a current location reading from the previous location reading; and calculating a total mileage based on the subtotal mileage and the incremental mileage for displaying on a device.
Claims18
A method, comprising:
- generating, by a device, an initial route for navigation from a starting location to a target destination;
- receiving a first current location reading and a first current heading associated with the first current location reading;
- determining if at least one of the first current heading and the first current location reading differ from the generated route;
- responsive to a positive determination that at least one of the first current heading and the first current location reading differs from the initial route, generating a new route to reach the target destination based on the first current location reading and the first current heading that differs from the initial route;
- determining a previous location reading associated with a subtotal mileage;
- calculating an incremental mileage based on the first current location reading and the previous location reading;
- calculating a total mileage along the new route based on the subtotal mileage and the incremental mileage;
- receiving a second current location along the new route and a second current heading associated with the second current location along the new route;
- updating the subtotal mileage with the total mileage at the first current location and the previous heading with the first current location reading;
- calculating a second incremental mileage based on the second current location reading along the new route and the first current location reading;
- calculating a change in heading between the second current heading and the first current heading;
- determining that the change in heading meets a threshold heading criteria;
- and
- responsive to determining that the change in heading meets the threshold heading criteria,
- updating the subtotal mileage with a new total mileage calculated based on the updated subtotal mileage and the second incremental mileage, and
- updating the previous heading associated with the first current location reading with the second current heading.

A method, comprising:
- receiving a current location reading along a route and a current heading associated with the current location reading;
- calculating, by a device, an incremental mileage based on a previous location reading along the route and the current location reading;
- determining that the incremental mileage meets a threshold mileage criteria;
- responsive to determining that the incremental mileage meets the threshold mileage criteria,
- setting an update flag that initiates an update process;
- and
- transmitting an update request to a server device for initiating the update process,
- wherein the update process comprises an update of the subtotal mileage by adding the incremental mileage to the subtotal mileage, an update of the previous location with the current location, and an update of a previous heading associated with the previous location reading with the current heading, and
- wherein the update request comprises the update flag, the incremental mileage, the current location reading, and the current heading.

- receiving a request to initiate an update process when an incremental mileage meets a threshold mileage criterion,
- wherein the incremental mileage is associated with a previous location reading and a current location reading along a route, and
- wherein the request comprises an update flag that is set when the incremental mileage meets the threshold mileage criterion, the incremental mileage, the current location reading, a current timestamp associated with the current location reading, and a current heading associated with the current location reading;
- responsive to receiving the request comprising the update flag to initiate the update process,
- retrieving, by a processor, a subtotal mileage associated with the previous location reading;
- updating the subtotal mileage with a sum of the incremental mileage and the subtotal mileage associated with the previous location reading;
- updating the previous location reading with the current location reading;
- and
- updating the previous heading with the current heading.
