Abstract
A storage device controller is configured to select one of multiple written track widths for a storage location based on a write attribute of data to be recorded at the storage location. According to one implementation, the storage device controller is further configured to select a power level for a heat-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) device based on the write attribute.

One or more computer-readable storage media encoding computer-executable instructions for executing on a computer system a computer process, the computer process comprising:
- selecting one of multiple written track widths within a data band for a storage location based on a write attribute of data to be recorded at the storage location.
One or more computer-readable storage media encoding computer-executable instructions for executing on a computer system a computer process, the computer process comprising:
- selecting a power level for operating a heat-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) head to record data on a storage medium based on an attribute of the data.
Apparatus comprising:
- a storage device controller configured to write cache data to a first radial zone of a storage medium at a first written track width and non-cache data to a second radial of the storage medium at one or more written track widths different from the first track width.
One or more computer-readable storage media encoding computer-executable instructions for executing on a computer system a computer process, the computer process comprising:
- a storage device controller configured to select one of multiple written track widths for a storage location based on a current available storage capacity on a storage medium.
