Apparatus and method for access point selection

An access point selection apparatus comprising:

• a sniffing unit configured to sniff a plurality of packets transmitted to each of a plurality of access points during a preset duration of time;
• a calculation unit configured to calculate a retransmission rate for each of the access points, the retransmission rate representing a ratio between packets that were retransmitted and packets that were not retransmitted from among the sniffed packets, the calculation unit configured to calculate a collision probability of packets transmitted to each of the access points and a number of terminals transmitting packets to each of the access points by using the retransmission rate, the calculation unit configured to calculate an uplink packet processing rate of each of the access points by using the collision probability and the number of terminals transmitting packets;
• and
• a selection unit configured to select an access point having a highest value of the uplink packet processing rate from among the access points as an access point to which a target terminal is to be wirelessly connected.
