Abstract
A computer-implemented method includes displaying, within a user interface in a digital media system, a media pane, and a project pane, displaying, within the media pane, a thumbnail group representing a media item, the thumbnail group comprising one or more thumbnails, enabling a user to select, from the thumbnail group, a segment of the media item, and enabling a user to transfer the selected segment to the project pane.

A computer-implemented method comprising:
- accessing a media item stored on a memory device, the media item including a plurality of frames;
- dividing the media item into a plurality of segments, each segment of the plurality of segments including a portion of the plurality of frames;
- generating, for display on a display device, a plurality of thumbnails to represent the plurality of segments of the media item, a first thumbnail of the plurality of thumbnails corresponding to a first segment of the plurality of segments, the first thumbnail including a spatial position within an outline of the first thumbnail corresponding to each frame in the first segment;
- and
- displaying the plurality of thumbnails in a continuous sequence within a graphical user interface to represent the media item.
A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing computer software instructions executable by a computer system to perform operations comprising:
- accessing a media item stored on a memory device, the media item including a plurality of frames;
- dividing the media item into a plurality of segments, each segment of the plurality of segments including a portion of the plurality of frames;
- generating, for display on a display device, a plurality of thumbnails to represent the plurality of segments of the media item, a first thumbnail of the plurality of thumbnails corresponding to a first segment of the plurality of segments, the first thumbnail including a spatial position within an outline of the first thumbnail corresponding to each frame in the first segment;
- and
- displaying the plurality of thumbnails in a continuous sequence within a graphical user interface to represent the media item.
A system comprising:
- a display device;
- one or more processors communicatively coupled to the display device;
- and
- a memory device coupled to the one or more processors and including instructions that, when executed on the system, cause the system to perform operations comprising:
- accessing a media item stored on a memory device, the media item including a plurality of frames;
- dividing the media item into a plurality of segments, each segment of the plurality of segments including a portion of the plurality of frames;
- generating, for display on a display device, a plurality of thumbnails to represent the plurality of segments of the media item, a first thumbnail of the plurality of thumbnails corresponding to a first segment of the plurality of segments, the first thumbnail including a spatial position within an outline of the first thumbnail corresponding to each frame in the first segment;
- and
- displaying the plurality of thumbnails in a continuous sequence within a graphical user interface to represent the media item.
