Ultra-portable coordinate measurement machine

A coordinate measurement machine comprising:

• a trackable device mounted on the coordinate measurement machine, the trackable device being configured to facilitate measurement of the location of the coordinate measurement machine in space;
• and
• at least one of:
• an articulated arm comprising a plurality of transfer members and a plurality of articulating members connecting the plurality of transfer members to each other to measure an angle between the transfer members;
• and
• an optical coordinate acquisition member,
• wherein the coordinate measurement machine is configured to be mounted to a user for hands-free use.

A method for measuring one or more points, comprising:

• carrying a coordinate measurement machine comprising an optical coordinate acquisition member by a user;
• measuring one or more objects with the coordinate measurement machine while carried by the user;
• and
• tracking a location of the coordinate measurement machine while measuring said one or more objects.
