Abstract
The present invention relates to pellets for use in the manufacture of glass.
Claims32
A pellet for use in a glass batch process, the pellet comprising:
- a first layer comprising Na2CO3;
- and
- a second layer comprising SiO2 and CaCO3 enclosing the first layer,
- wherein the first layer comprises 81% or more Na2CO3 by weight of the whole Na2CO3 content of the pellet.

A method of making a pellet for use in a glass batch process, the pellet comprising a first layer comprising Na2CO3 and a second layer comprising SiO2 and CaCO3 enclosing the first layer, the first layer comprising 81% or more Na2CO3 by weight of the whole Na2CO3 content of the pellet, the method comprising:
- pelletising the components of the first layer comprising 81% or more Na2CO3 by weight of the whole Na2CO3 content of the pellet;
- and
- pelletising the components of the second layer comprising SiO2 and CaCO3, and the pelletised first layer, so that the components of the second layer form a layer over the first layer.

A method of making glass, the method comprising:
- introducing one or more pellets comprising a first layer comprising Na2CO3 and a second layer comprising SiO2 and CaCO3 enclosing the first layer, wherein the first layer comprises 81% or more Na2CO3 by weight of the whole Na2CO3 content of the pellet, into a glass melt furnace;
- heating the one or more pellets to produce a glass solution;
- and
- cooling the glass solution to make a glass.
