Abstract
A microwave antenna has a radiating portion connected by a feedline to a power generating source, e.g., a generator. Proximal and distal radiating portions of the antenna assembly are separated by a junction member. A reinforcing member is disposed within the junction member to increase structural rigidity.

A microwave antenna assembly, comprising:
- a radiating portion configured to operably couple to a source of microwave energy, the radiating portion including:
- a proximal radiating portion including:
- an outer conductor;
- an inner conductor disposed within the outer conductor;
- and
- a dielectric material disposed between the outer and inner conductors;
- and
- a distal radiating portion disposed distally of the proximal radiating portion, the inner conductor extending longitudinally within the distal radiating portion;
- a lumen formed around the outer conductor and configured to receive cooling fluid therein;
- and
- a thermocouple disposed within the radiating portion and configured to sense temperature within the radiating portion.

A microwave ablation system, comprising:
- a source of microwave energy;
- and
- a microwave antenna assembly including:
- a proximal radiating portion configured to be operably coupled to the source of microwave energy, the proximal radiating portion including:
- an outer conductor;
- an inner conductor disposed within the outer conductor;
- and
- a dielectric material disposed between the outer and inner conductors;
- and
- a distal radiating portion disposed distally of the proximal radiating portion, the inner conductor extending longitudinally within the distal radiating portion;
- a lumen formed around the outer conductor and configured to receive cooling fluid therein;
- and
- a thermocouple disposed within at least one of the proximal or distal radiating portions and configured to sense temperature within the at least one of the proximal or distal radiating portions.
