Electronic Device Including a Memory Technology Device

A method comprising:

• providing a firmware on a nonvolatile storage device, wherein the firmware comprises a boot loader, a kernel, and a root disk image;
• expanding the boot loader from the nonvolatile storage device onto a random access memory (RAM) as the boot loader;
• expanding a kernel from the nonvolatile storage device onto the RAM as the kernel;
• determining whether or not a boot mode of an image forming apparatus is an update mode for updating the firmware on the nonvolatile storage device;
• based on determining that the boot mode is a normal boot mode, mounting the root disk image onto the nonvolatile storage device as a root file system;
• and
• based on determining that the boot mode is an update mode for updating the firmware of the nonvolatile storage device, mounting the root disk image onto a RAM disk.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium having instructions stored thereon that, upon execution by at least one processor, causes an electronic device to perform the following operations:

• providing a firmware on a nonvolatile storage device, wherein the firmware comprises a boot loader, a kernel, and a root disk image;
• expanding the boot loader from the nonvolatile storage device onto a random access memory (RAM) as the boot loader;
• expanding a kernel from the nonvolatile storage device onto the RAM as the kernel;
• determining whether or not a boot mode of an image forming apparatus is an update mode for updating the firmware on the nonvolatile storage device;
• based on determining that the boot mode is a normal boot mode, mounting the root disk image onto the nonvolatile storage device as a root file system;
• and
• based on determining that the boot mode is an update mode for updating the firmware of the nonvolatile storage device, mounting the root disk image onto a RAM disk.
