A mold for fabricating structured surfaces for medical applications, the mold comprising:
- a first surface defining structures configured for fabricating medical particles for treating biologic tissues or conditions,
- wherein the mold comprises an oligomer and wherein the oligomer is produced from polymerization of monomers selected from the group consisting of trifluorochloroethylene, trifluoroethylene, hexafluoro-iso-propyl(meth)acrylate, 1H,1H,3H-hexafluorobutyl(meth)acrylate, 1H,1H,5H-octafluoropentyl(meth)acrylate, pentafluorophenyl(meth)acrylate, perfluoro(methyl vinyl ether), 1,1-dihydroperfluorobutyl(meth)acrylate, and combinations thereof.
A system for fabricating structured medical articles, the system comprising:
- a mold having a first surface defining structures for molding particles therefrom, wherein the mold comprises an oligomer and wherein the oligomer is produced from polymerization of monomers selected from the group consisting of trifluorochloroethylene, trifluoroethylene, hexafluoro-iso-propyl(meth)acrylate, 1H,1H,3H-hexafluorobutyl(meth)acrylate, 1H,1H,5H-octafluoropentyl(meth)acrylate, pentafluorophenyl(meth)acrylate, perfluoro(methyl vinyl ether), 1,1-dihydroperfluorobutyl(meth)acrylate, and combinations thereof;
- and
- a biomaterial configured to be molded by the mold and form a medical particle that treats or prevents a biologic tissue or condition.
A method of molding a medical article, comprising:
- filling a mold cavity in a mold with a solution to be molded into a medical article, wherein the mold comprises an oligomer, wherein the oligomer is produced from polymerization of monomers selected from the group consisting of trifluorochloroethylene, trifluoroethylene, hexafluoro-iso-propyl(meth)acrylate, 1H,1H,3H-hexafluorobutyl(meth)acrylate, 1H,1H,5H-octafluoropentyl(meth)acrylate, pentafluorophenyl(meth)acrylate, perfluoro(methyl vinyl ether), 1,1-dihydroperfluorobutyl(meth)acrylate, and combinations thereof, and wherein the solution to be molded comprises a biocompatible material;
- hardening the solution into a particle in the mold cavities;
- and
- removing the particles from the mold cavities.
