Method and apparatus for providing information on a top section of a portable radio

A display component configured to display information on a top section of a portable radio, comprising:

• a housing including a top section that is coupled to a bottom section of at least one of an antenna and a knob and including a bottom section that is coupled to a top section of an interface connector coupled to a hardware attachment on the top section of the portable radio;
• a flexible electronic paper display formed by a plurality of micro-capsules, wherein the flexible electronic paper display is mounted on the housing of the display component;
• and
• a protective shield placed over the flexible electronic paper display.
