Abstract
An electrode for use in bio-electrochemical systems is described, including: a substantially planar electrode material; a frame comprising a non-conductive substance; and one or more first conductive substances linked or secured to the frame. Bio-electrochemical systems, racks for inserting the electrode, and methods of using the racks are also described.

An electrode for use in bio-electrochemical systems, the electrode comprising:
- a substantially planar electrode material;
- a frame comprising a non-conductive substance;
- and
- one or more first conductive substances linked or secured to the frame, wherein the first conductive substance is electrically connected to the planar electrode material as one or more current collectors.
A bio-electrochemical electrode cassette comprising:
- at least one working electrode comprising
- a substantially planar electrode material;
- a frame comprising a non-conductive substance;
- and
- one or more first conductive substances linked or secured to the frame, wherein the conductive substance is electrically connected to the planar electrode material as one or more current collectors;
- at least one counter electrode;
- and
- at least one insulating spacer.
A bio-electrochemical system, comprising:
- at least one reactor chamber;
- at least one working electrode disposed within the reactor chamber;
- at least one counter electrode;
- and
- a rack disposed within the reactor chamber and comprising one or more securing mechanisms;
- wherein the at least one working electrode is disposed in the rack through the one or more securing mechanisms.
A method for the construction of electrode materials for a bio-electrochemical system, comprising:
- electrochemically coating a conductive substrate with a coating substance by application of a current.
