Abstract
An image enhancement apparatus according to the present invention for generating an output image obtained by sharpening an input image includes a non-linear processing unit configured to carry out non-linear processing on an input image signal representing the input image, a filter unit configured to generate a second signal by removing at least a DC component of the frequency components included in the first signal, a limiter configured to generate a third signal by adjusting the second signal, and an adder configured to generate an output image signal representing the output image by adding the third signal to the input image signal.
Claims6
An image enhancement apparatus for generating an output image obtained by sharpening an input image, comprising:
- a non-linear processing unit configured to generate a first signal by carrying out non-linear processing on an input image signal representing the input image, the first signal being expressed as a continuous non-linear function with respect to the input image signal, and configured to generate frequency components that are not included in the input image signal;
- a filter unit configured to generate a second signal by removing at least a DC component of the frequency components included in the first signal;
- a limiter configured to generate a third signal by adjusting the second signal;
- and
- an adder configured to generate an output image signal representing the output image by adding the third signal to the input image signal.
An image enhancement method employed by an image enhancement apparatus for generating an output image obtained by sharpening an input image, the image enhancement method comprising:
- a non-linear processing step of generating a first signal by carrying out non-linear processing on an input image signal representing the input image, the first signal being expressed as a continuous non-linear function with respect to the input image signal, and generating frequency components that are not included in the input image signal;
- a step of generating a second signal by removing at least a DC component of the frequency components included in the first signal;
- a step of generating a third signal by adjusting the second signal;
- and
- a step of generating an output image signal representing the output image by adding the third signal to the input image signal.
