Uplink-Based Wireless Radio Resource Management

An apparatus comprising:

• a network interface unit configured to enable communications over a network;
• and
• a processor coupled to the network interface unit, and configured to:
• obtain receive signal strength information of uplink transmissions received at neighboring access points in a wireless network;
• determine an effective path loss between the neighboring access points based on the receive signal strength information for the uplink transmissions received at the neighboring access points;
• and
• perform radio resource management operations in the wireless network using the effective path loss determined based on the uplink transmissions received at the neighboring access points.

One or more computer readable storage media encoded with software comprising computer executable instructions and when the software is executed operable to:

• obtain receive signal strength information of uplink transmissions received at neighboring access points in a wireless network;
• determine an effective path loss between the neighboring access points based on the receive signal strength information for the uplink transmissions received at the neighboring access points;
• and
• perform radio resource management operations in the wireless network using the effective path loss determined based on the uplink transmissions received at the neighboring access points.
