Abstract
Rapid failure detection and recovery in wireless communication networks is needed in order to meet, among other things, carrier class Ethernet transport channel standards. Thus, resilient wireless packet communications is provided using a hardware-assisted rapid transport channel failure detection algorithm and a Gigabit Ethernet data access card with an engine configured accordingly. In networks with various topologies, this is provided in combination with their existing protocols, such as rapid spanning tree and link aggregation protocols, respectively.
Claims21
A method comprising:
- monitoring a wireless network link used by a first wireless network node, the monitoring occurring at a physical layer of a data access card in the first wireless network node;
- determining, at the physical layer of the data access card, whether there is a failure condition with respect to the wireless network link;
- and
- in response to the determining whether there is a failure condition, inserting information related to the failure condition into a header of one or more wireless network packets sent from the first wireless network node over the wireless network link to a second wireless network node.
A first wireless network node comprising:
- a network interface configured to receive data from a wireless network;
- and
- a data access card including:
- a processor;
- and
- memory including instructions configured to cause the processor to perform a method, the method comprising:
- monitoring a wireless network link used by a first wireless network node, the monitoring occurring at a physical layer of a data access card in the first wireless network node;
- determining, at the physical layer of the data access card, whether there is a failure condition with respect to the wireless network link;
- and
- in response to the determining whether there is a failure condition, inserting information related to the failure condition into a header of one or more wireless network packets sent from the first wireless network node over the wireless network link to a second wireless network node.
A system comprising:
- means for monitoring a wireless network link used by a first wireless network node, the monitoring occurring at a physical layer of a data access card in the first wireless network node;
- means for determining, at the physical layer of the data access card, whether there is a failure condition with respect to the wireless network link;
- and
- means for inserting information related to the failure condition into a header of one or more wireless network packets sent from the first wireless network node over the wireless network link to a second wireless network node in response to the determining whether there is a failure condition.
