Abstract
A method of producing a rifle scope having a body made in part of composite material. The method utilizes a composite material tubular housing element, having a rear and having an outer diameter and a metal eyepiece adapter in form of a tube having an inner diameter matching the outer diameter. In the method, the metal eyepiece adapter is adhered partially over the rear of the tubular housing element.
Claims23
A method of producing a rifle scope having a body made in part of composite material, comprising:
- (a) providing longitudinal spud, separable into a front piece and a rear piece, and having a rigid-material tube placed where said front piece joins said rear piece;
- (b) placing woven-fiber material about said spud and said rigid-material tube, thereby creating a work piece;
- and
- (c) placing said work piece into a mold and introducing a charge of a resin;
- (d) closing said mold and heating said work piece and said resin until said resin infuses said woven-fiber material, thereby creating a composite material shell;
- (e) permitting the resin to cure;
- (f) opening said mold and removing said work piece;
- (g) pulling said front piece from said front of said composite material shell and pulling said rear piece from said back of said composite material shell, leaving said rigid-material tube contained within and connected to said composite material shell;
- (h) using said composite material shell as a part in the construction of a rifle scope.
A method of producing a rifle scope having a body made in part of composite material, comprising:
- (a) providing a composite material tubular housing element, having a rear and having an outer diameter;
- (b) providing a metal eyepiece adapter in form of a tube having an inner diameter matching said outer diameter;
- (c) adhering said metal eyepiece adapter partially over said rear of said tubular housing element.
An optical assembly, comprising:
- (a) a compound material tubular housing element;
- (b) a set of metal tube elements adhered within said compound material tubular housing element;
- (c) lens group assemblies, seated in said metal tube elements, thereby forming an optical train.
A rifle scope having a front and a rear, and comprising:
- (a) a main tube made of composite material, and having a front and a rear;
- (b) a zoom and erector assembly positioned mostly in said main tube;
- (c) a metal eyepiece adapter rigidly attached to said rear of said main tube, and adapted to brace said zoom and erector assembly against forward motion relative to said main tube, during rifle recoil;
- and
- (d) an eyepiece rigidly attached to said eyepiece adapter.
