Service discovery using a network

A local device comprising:

• a communication interface comprising a transceiver configured to send and receive data;
• a memory storing computer-executable instructions;
• and
• a processor communicatively coupled to the communication interface and the memory, and configured to execute the computer-executable instructions to:
• access local service set data indicative of one or more services available for execution on the processor of the local device;
• generate a local signature, the local signature comprising an alphanumeric string generated by a hash function, wherein the local service set data is used as input to the hash function;
• receive from a remote device external to the local device, using the communication interface, remote beacon data comprising a remote signature, the remote signature comprising an alphanumeric string generated by the hash function, wherein remote service set data indicative of one or more services available for execution on a processor of the remote device is used as input to the hash function;
• determine the local signature and the remote signature are equivalent;
• and
• update stored service data in the memory of the local device to associate the remote device with the local service set data, wherein the updated stored service data comprises one or more of a pointer, key value, or table referent which establishes a correspondence between a device identifier of a device and service set data for the device.
