Abstract
A neural network is disclosed. The neural network comprises a plurality of optogenetically modified neural cells being three-dimensionally distributed in a hydrogel medium and being disconnected from any solid support having a shear modulus above 1 GPa.
Claims20
A system for drug screening, comprising:
- a chamber having therein the neural network which comprises a plurality of optogenetically modified neural cells being three-dimensionally distributed in a hydrogel medium and being disconnected from any solid support having a shear modulus above 1 GPa;
- and
- a microfluidic system for supplying at least one drug to said cells.
A method of drug screening, comprising:
- using a microfluidic system for supplying at least one drug to a neural network contained in a chamber, said neural network comprising a plurality of optogenetically modified neural cells being three-dimensionally distributed in a hydrogel medium and being disconnected from any solid support having a shear modulus above 1 GPa;
- optically stimulating said neural network;
- and
- imaging said neural cells to determine activity of said neural cells and/or response of neural cells to said stimulation.
