Abstract
This invention relates generally to methods and compositions for inducing stem cell or progenitor cell differentiation, and more particularly to methods and compositions for inducing differentiation of stem cells and/or progenitor cells into cells that function within the inner ear.

A method of treating hearing loss associated with loss of sensory neurons in a human subject, the method comprising:
- providing a neural progenitor cell that expresses nestin and Sox-1;
- and
- injecting the neural progenitor cell that expresses nestin and Sox-1 into the auditory nerve trunk in the internal auditory meatus of the human subject in need thereof, thereby treating the hearing loss in the subject.
