Abstract
Various systems and methods for determining the lift of a wastegate valve are provided. For example, a method comprises determining a relation between an actuator position and a lift of a wastegate valve at engine start-up in a temperature range. The relation may be modified based on a difference between a desired boost level and an actual boost level.
Claims20
A method, comprising:
- identifying a relation between an actuator position and a lift of a wastegate valve at engine start-up in a temperature range;
- and
- after start-up, modifying the relation based on a difference between a desired boost level and an actual boost level.
An internal combustion engine, comprising:
- at least one cylinder;
- a compression device including a compressor arranged along an intake manifold and a turbine arranged along an exhaust passage;
- a wastegate arranged along the exhaust passage, the wastegate including a wastegate valve coupled to an actuator via a linkage;
- and
- an engine controller including a logic subsystem and a storage subsystem holding instructions thereon executable by the logic subsystem to:
- determine a relation between a position of the actuator and a lift of the wastegate valve at start-up of the engine in a temperature range;
- and
- modify the relation based on a difference between a desired boost level and an actual boost level.

A method, comprising:
- identifying a relation between an actuator position and a lift of a wastegate valve at engine start-up in a temperature range;
- and
- after start-up, modifying the relation based on a difference between a desired boost level and an actual boost level;
- wherein the relation yields a decreased lift for a given actuator position at an upper end of the temperature range and yields an increased lift for a given actuator position at a lower end of the temperature range.
