Jack plate for an outboard motor

A method of mounting an outboard motor onto a boat, the method comprising:

• forming a motor lift by positioning a plate between first and second bearings, each bearing defining a keyed slot adapted to receive a side of the plate;
• inserting each of the first and second bearings into a first or second channel of a mounting assembly;
• attaching the mounting assembly to a transom of the boat;
• and
• attaching the outboard motor to the lift plate.

A method of assembling an outboard motor onto a boat, the method comprising:

• positioning a plate between first and second bearings, each bearing defining a slot adapted to receive a side of the plate;
• inserting each of the first and second bearings into a first or second channel of a first and second bracket assembly;
• and
• attaching a transom plate with sides with both the first and second bracket, the transom plate further having key portions extending from the first and second sides to match cooperating key portions on the first and second bracket, engaging the respective key portions of the transom plate with the cooperating key portions of the first and second brackets to form a motor lift.

A method of providing a motor lift for a boat, the method comprising:

• Providing first and second elongate polymer bearings, each with a slot extending lengthwise;
• providing a plate sized to fit between first and second bearings in the respective slots;
• providing a first and a second spacing bracket, each bracket sized for receiving one of the first and second elongate polymer bearings, the first and second spacing brackets each having a receiving flat with a key recess;
• providing a transom plate with sides for connecting with both the first and second spacing brackets by seating on the flat, the transom plate further having key portions for engaging with the key recesses of both of the first and second bracket.
