A method for warming or maintaining the core body temperature of a subject, comprising:
- applying heat to peripheral thermoregulatory control tissue of the subject, wherein the applied heat increases or maintains perfusion of blood in glabrous tissue of the subject and applying a warming stimulus to the glabrous tissue thereby warming or maintaining the core body temperature, wherein the heat is applied to the peripheral thermoregulatory control tissue simultaneously with application of the warming stimulus to the glabrous tissue.
