Abstract
Embodiments of locating seismic events are disclosed. In one embodiment, a single difference seismic locator and a reverse double difference seismic locator are combined into a combined system of equations, and the combined system of equations is solved to determine a location of the seismic event in substantially real time relative to the seismic event. The combined system of equations may be weighted such that the determined location of the seismic event is partially influenced by the single difference seismic locator and partially influenced by the reverse double difference seismic locator.
Claims20
A method of locating a seismic event, comprising:
- receiving a plurality of picked arrival times corresponding to the seismic event at a respective plurality of sensor locations;
- constructing a first system of equations for locating the seismic event based on a plurality of calculated travel times derived from an estimated velocity model and the plurality of picked arrival times;
- constructing a second system of equations for locating the seismic event based on
- relative differences between two or more picked arrival times of the plurality of picked arrival times, the two or more picked arrival times corresponding to two or more of the plurality of sensor locations and
- relative differences between two or more calculated travel times of the plurality of calculated travel times, the two or more calculated travel times corresponding to two or more of the plurality of sensor locations;
- and
- simultaneously solving the first and second systems of equations to determine a location of the seismic event.
A method of locating a seismic event, comprising:
- combining a single difference seismic locator and a reverse double difference seismic locator into a combined system of equations;
- and
- solving the combined system of equations to determine a location of the seismic event in substantially real time relative to the seismic event;
- wherein the combined system of equations is weighted such that the determined location of the seismic event is partially influenced by the single difference seismic locator and partially influenced by the reverse double difference seismic locator.
A method of locating a seismic event, comprising:
- receiving a plurality of picked arrival times corresponding to the seismic event at a respective plurality of sensor locations, the plurality of sensor locations defining a 3-D buried array;
- calculating a plurality of travel times derived from an estimated velocity model;
- constructing a system of equations for locating the seismic event based on
- relative differences between two or more picked arrival times of the plurality of picked arrival times, the two or more picked arrival times corresponding to two or more of the plurality of sensor locations and
- relative differences between two or more calculated travel times of the plurality of calculated travel times, the two or more calculated travel times corresponding to two or more of the plurality of sensor locations;
- and
- solving the systems of equation to determine a location of the seismic event.
