Abstract
The invention relates to modified reinforcement fibers for use in a variety of applications. The modification includes crimping linear or straight reinforcement fibers to create a deformed or different shaped reinforcement fiber. Examples of the shaped fibers resulting from crimping include w-shaped, s-shaped, z-shaped and wedge-shaped.
Claims11
A modified reinforcement fiber, comprising:
- a reinforcement fiber having a length;
- and
- a deformation formed in the length, wherein the deformation includes at least one crimp
A reinforcement fiber composition, comprising:
- a plurality of reinforcement fibers, at least a portion of the plurality of reinforcement fibers comprises a plurality of modified reinforcement fibers each having a length and a deformation formed in the length, wherein the deformation includes at least one crimp
A method of preparing a modified reinforcement fiber, comprising:
- providing an original reinforcement fiber having a substantially linear shape;
- forming a deformation in the original reinforcement fiber by forming at least one crimp in the linear shape of the fiber;
- and
- deforming the linear shape of the original reinforcement fiber to produce a modified reinforcement fiber.
