• a sausage comprising an edible substance, the sausage defining an outer generally cylindrical surface with a major axis, wherein the sausage includes two or more planar areas of discontinuity that both extend in directions that are common with a direction of the major axis, wherein the two or more planar areas of discontinuity are distinct from each other, wherein the two or more planar areas of discontinuity define two-dimensional planar areas at which a discontinuity of the sausage's edible substance exists, and wherein one and only one of the planar areas of discontinuity intersects the outer generally cylindrical surface.

A food product comprising:

• food material configured in an elongate shape that defines a longitudinal axis and an outer generally cylindrical surface, wherein transverse cross-sections of the food material at multiple points along the longitudinal axis are generally circular,
• the food material including a first discontinuous-plane, the first discontinuous-plane intersecting the outer generally cylindrical surface to define a linear separation along the outer generally cylindrical surface that extends longitudinally, the first discontinuous-plane extending from the linear separation into the food material,
• the food material including a second discontinuous-plane within the food material, wherein the second discontinuous-plane intersects the first discontinuous-plane, and wherein the second discontinuous plane does not intersect the outer generally cylindrical surface.
