Abstract
The present invention relates to compositions comprising a plant material and methods for using the same. The methods include extracting or removing a substance from a substrate, or remediating a substrate from a substance. The substance can comprise a hydrocarbon-containing substance, a protein, lipid, wax, fatty acid or fatty alcohol, grease, fat, oil or a combination thereof.
Claims42
A method for removing plant- or animal-derived fat, oil or grease from a substrate, comprising contacting the substrate with an aqueous composition comprising:
- a. about 0.1 wt % to about 99.9 wt % of plant material;
- b. 0% to about 20 wt % of a polysaccharide;
- c. 0% to about 10 wt % of an alcohol;
- d. 0% to about 15 wt % of a base;
- e. 0% to about 10 wt % of a salt;
- f. 0% to about 10 wt % of an acid;
- g. 0% to about 10 wt % of an additive;
- and
- h. about 0 wt % to about 99.9 wt % of water.
A method for inhibiting growth of bacteria, fungi or a virus on a substrate by contacting the substrate with an aqueous composition comprising:
- i. about 0.1 wt % to about 99.9 wt % of plant material;
- j. 0% to about 20 wt % of a polysaccharide;
- k. 0% to about 10 wt % of an alcohol;
- l. 0% to about 15 wt % of a base;
- m. 0% to about 10 wt % of a salt;
- n. 0% to about 10 wt % of an acid;
- o. 0% to about 10 wt % of an additive;
- and
- p. about 0 wt % to about 99.9 wt % of water.
