Abstract
Individuals are provided with a mechanism for sharing their team's workflow with other teams in their organization on different instances in an enterprise or network, or with external parties in other organizations via a workflow marketplace. In this way, individuals can easily use workflows that other people have published, or move a workflow from staging to production in their own organization.
Claims11
A workflow sharing apparatus, comprising:
- a facility associated with a target instance comprising an input for receiving a source workflow bundle from a source instance;
- said facility further comprising a processor and associated heuristics for automatically creating a canonical description of said workflow by building a tree representation of said workflow with a parser, generating an in-memory graph of said workflow with a serializer/deserializer, and converting said workflow to a textual format that is deserialized into a set of steps and transitions that an issue progresses through during said issue's lifecycle in said workflow;
- and
- said facility implementing said canonical description of said workflow as a target workflow at said target instance.

A workflow sharing method, comprising:
- building a workflow at a source instance;
- uploading said workflow to a marketplace;
- downloading said workflow to a target instance;
- at said target instance:
- parsing and deserializing said workflow to create a canonical description of said workflow;
- displaying details of said workflow statuses;
- mapping steps of said workflow to existing workflow statuses and/or creating new statuses;
- displaying a summary of workflow changes;
- and
- implementing said workflow at said target instance upon receiving acceptance of said changes to said workflow.
