Method for periodontal disease measurement

A method for periodontal disease measurement, comprising:

• using an X-ray CT image that allows teeth and periodontal tissues to be comprehensively observed to detect a contour of each tooth in the X-ray CT image;
• providing a dental formula;
• detecting position data of a root apex, an alveolar crest, and a crown of each tooth;
• calculating at least one of a distance indicator, a volume indicator, a surface area indicator, a first moment indicator, a center-of-gravity indicator, and an alveolar bone indicator from the position data of the root apex, the alveolar crest, and the crown of the tooth;
• and
• measuring the progression of periodontal disease based on at least one calculated indicator.

An apparatus for periodontal disease measurement, comprising:

• a detection unit configured to use an X-ray CT image that allows teeth and periodontal tissues to be comprehensively observed to detect a contour of each tooth in the X-ray CT image;
• a calculation unit configured to provide a dental formula, detect position data of a root apex, an alveolar crest, and a crown of each tooth, and calculate at least one of a distance indicator, a volume indicator, a surface area indicator, a first moment indicator, a center-of-gravity indicator, and an alveolar bone indicator from the position data of the root apex, the alveolar crest, and the crown of the tooth;
• and
• a measurement unit configured to measure the progression of periodontal disease based on at least one calculated indicator.
