Abstract
Usage information is received that describes usage of communication services by a communications device. The usage information is compared to monitoring criteria. When the monitoring criteria are satisfied, an electronic notification message is sent to the communications device before an additional charge is incurred.

A method, comprising:
- receiving, at a computer, usage information for a communications device accessing services in a communications system;
- combining the usage information for the services into a combined usage;
- comparing the combined usage to a monitoring criterion for incurring additional charges to an account;
- determining the combined usage satisfies the monitoring criteria;
- and
- sending, before the additional charges are incurred, an electronic message to the communications device that alerts of the additional charges.
