Electronic device power management

A method of installing a power management tool in an electronic device having a computer processor, the method comprising:

• receiving, at the electronic device, an indication that a protective case has been operatively connected to the electronic device;
• receiving, at the electronic device from the protective case, a software application comprising the power management tool;
• storing the software application in the electronic device;
• and
• executing, by the computer processor, the software application to manage power available from a battery of the electronic device and available from a battery of the protective case.

A method of installing battery management software in an electronic device having a computer processor, the method comprising:

• receiving an identifier associated with the battery management software from a case communicatively coupled to the electronic device;
• transmitting, using network communication capabilities of the electronic device, a request for the battery management software to a server over a network, wherein the request includes the identifier;
• receiving the battery management software from the server in response to the request;
• and
• installing the battery management software on the electronic device.
