Abstract
Systems and methods are provided for throughput optimization of a hard disk drive (HDD) using position error signaling (PES) that includes determining a PES for a HDD mounted in a chassis based on a dynamic disturbance. The method also includes calculating a critical parameter of the PES. The method further includes indicating a mechanical design modification of the HDD or the chassis if the critical parameter of the PES exceeds a pre-defined threshold.

A method for throughput optimization of a hard disk drive (HDD) using position error signaling (PES) comprising:
- for each of a plurality of HDDs in an array mounted in a chassis:
- determining a PES based on a dynamic disturbance;
- calculating a critical parameter of the PES;
- and
- determining a performance parameter;
- generating a performance map of the array;
- and
- indicating a mechanical design modification of a particular HDD in the array or the chassis if the critical parameter of the PES for the particular HDD exceeds a pre-defined threshold or the performance parameter for the particular HDD fails to meet a pre-defined tolerance.

A hard disk drive (HDD) comprising:
- a processor configured to:
- for each of a plurality of HDDs in an array mounted in a chassis:
- determine a PES for based on a dynamic disturbance;
- calculate a critical parameter of the PES;
- and
- determine a performance parameter;
- generate a performance map of the array;
- and
- indicate a mechanical design modification of a particular HDD in the array or the chassis if the critical parameter of the PES for the particular HDD exceeds a pre-defined threshold or the performance parameter for the particular HDD fails to meet a pre-defined tolerance.
An information handling system comprising:
- a processor;
- a hard disk drive (HDD) communicatively coupled to the processor;
- and
- a computer-readable medium communicatively coupled to the processor and having stored thereon instructions configured to, when executed by the processor:
- for each of a plurality of HDDs in an array mounted in a chassis:
- determine a PES based on a dynamic disturbance;
- calculate a critical parameter of the PES;
- and
- determine a performance parameter;
- generate a performance map of the array;
- and
- indicate a mechanical design modification of a particular HDD in the array or the chassis if the critical parameter of the PES for the particular HDD exceeds a pre-defined threshold or the performance parameter for the particular HDD fails to meet a pre-defined tolerance.
