Apparatus and method for photographing portrait in portable terminal having camera

An apparatus having a camera, the apparatus comprising:

• a display unit configured to be disposed on an opposite side of the camera and to display an image photographed by the camera;
• a storage unit configured to store error warnings corresponding to error types and to store photographed images;
• and
• a control unit configured to determine whether a person is located in a subject recognition area of the image output by the camera in a photographing mode, to generate an error warning including direction information so that the person moves into the subject recognition area if at least a portion of the person is not located in the subject recognition area, and to store the image output by the camera if the person is located in the subject recognition area.

An apparatus comprising:

• a camera disposed on a first side of the apparatus and configured to operate in a photographing mode and to capture an image;
• a display unit disposed on a second side of the apparatus, opposite the first side, and configured to display the image captured by the camera;
• a storage unit configured to store error warnings corresponding to error types and to store the image captured by the camera;
• and
• a control unit configured to determine whether a person is located in a subject recognition area when the camera operates in the photographing mode, to generate an error warning when the person is not located in the subject recognition area, and to automatically control storing of the image captured by the camera if the person is located in the subject recognition area.
