Abstract
An improved thermal fogging device includes an extended heat transfer surface located within the aerosolization chamber that increases the mixing of the liquid chemical particles and the hot gases in the aerosol to improve aerosolization. The extended heat transfer surface also helps to increase the heat transfer to the forming aerosol in the aerosolization chamber.
Claims20
A thermal fogger for creating stable aerosols from a liquid material, comprising:
- a heating chamber for heating a gas to an elevated temperature;
- and
- an elongated aerosolization chamber into which the heated gas is introduced, the aerosolization chamber further comprising:
- an introduction port in a proximal portion of the aerosolization chamber for introduction of the liquid material;
- an extended-surface element disposed longitudinally within the aerosolization chamber wherein the extended-surface element has a convoluted surface;
- and
- an outlet opening at the distal end of the aerosolization chamber structured and adapted to discharge an aerosol formed within the aerosolization chamber.
A thermal fogger for forming a stable aerosol of a liquid material, comprising:
- heating means to heat a flow of gas to a predetermined temperature;
- mixing means adapted and configured to contact the liquid material and the heated gas to cause the heated gas and the liquid material to travel a convoluted path before being discharged as an aerosol.
A structural insert for installation into an aerosolization barrel of a thermal fogger comprising:
- a mixing means comprising flow diversion blades having a substantially uniform maximum diameter and structured to be substantially the same as an inner diameter of the aerosolization barrel of the thermal fogger.
A heat exchange surface element for a tubular-shaped aerosolization chamber of a thermal fogger, comprising:
- a screw-shaped element having spiral-shaped and substantially solid flights, the flights having a substantially uniform maximum diameter adapted and structured to be substantially the same as the inside diameter of the tubular-shaped aerosolization chamber and having a length substantially the same as the length of the tubular aerosolization chamber.
A method of forming a stable aerosol from a liquid introduced into a hot gas stream comprising:
- heating a gas to a foredetermined elevated temperature;
- flowing said gas into a mixing zone to mix with said liquid to create a gas-liquid mixture;
- flowing said gas-liquid mixture in a convoluted path in said mixing zone to form a stable aerosol;
- discharging said aerosol from said mixing zone.
