Managing gateway access

A system comprising:

• a content manager configured to initiate transfer of media content from a storage device to a client device, responsive to a transfer request from the client device, while the storage device is operating in a higher power mode;
• gateway logic coupled to the content manager and configured to disable a gateway on the storage device, responsive to the transfer request from the client device;
• and
• power logic coupled to the content manager and configured to enter a lower power mode, responsive to completion of the transfer of the media content.

One or more computer-readable tangible storage media encoding processor-executable instructions for executing on an electronic device a processor-executable process, the process comprising:

• initiating transfer of media content from a first device to a second device, responsive to a transfer request from the second device, while the first device in operating in a high power mode;
• disabling a gateway executing on the first device, responsive to the transfer request from the second device;
• and
• entering a low power mode in the first device, responsive to completion of the transfer of the media content from the first device to the second device.
