Enabling business intelligence applications to query semantic models

A computer program product, the computer program product comprising:

• a computer readable storage medium having computer readable program code embodied therein, wherein the computer readable program code, when executed by at least one processor of a computer, is configured to perform:
• constructing, with a processor of a computer, one or more queries using a Business Intelligence (BI) metadata model and one or more query declarations;
• executing the one or more queries on a semantic model to obtain one or more semantic result sets;
• receiving one or more data source result sets from one or more data sources;
• combining the one or more semantic result sets and the one or more data source result sets to construct one or more combined result sets;
• and
• rendering the one or more combined result sets to form a combined report.

A computer system, comprising:

• at least one processor;
• and
• a storage device coupled to the processor, wherein the storage device has stored thereon a program, and wherein the at least one processor is configured to execute instructions of the program to perform operations, wherein the operations comprise:
• constructing, with a processor of a computer, one or more queries using a Business Intelligence (BI) metadata model and one or more query declarations;
• executing the one or more queries on a semantic model to obtain one or more semantic result sets;
• receiving one or more data source result sets from one or more data sources;
• combining the one or more semantic result sets and the one or more data source result sets to construct one or more combined result sets;
• and
• rendering the one or more combined result sets to form a combined report.
