Abstract
The present invention concerns a monoclonal antibody and corresponding hybridoma cells and antigens suitable for isolating fetal cells from maternal blood. The inventive monoclonal antibody reacts with a surface antigen present on fetal red blood cells including their nucleated precursor cells, but not with surface antigens on adult erythroid cell.

A method for detection or identification of fetal red blood cells in a sample comprising
- labelling said fetal red blood cells and their nucleated precursor cells with an antibody;
- and
- reacting the antibody with a surface antigen present on said fetal red blood cells and their nucleated precursor cells, but not with one or more surface antigens on adult erythroid cells.
The method according to claim 18, wherein the sample is maternal blood.
