Abstract
The present invention provides liposome compositions containing substituted ammonium and/or polyanion, and optionally with a desired therapeutic or imaging entity. The present invention also provides methods of making the liposome compositions provided by the present invention.
Claims25
A liposomal composition comprising liposomes in an aqueous medium, the liposomes having an interior aqueous space separated from the aqueous medium by a membrane comprising an uncharged lipid component and a neutral phospholipid, with, entrapped inside the liposomes:
- 1) a cationic pharmaceutical entity and sucrose octasulfate, or 2) a cationic pharmaceutical entity and sucrose octasulfate and a substituted ammonium compound;
- wherein, the pharmaceutical entity entrapped inside the liposomes is at a concentration that exceeds the concentration of the pharmaceutical entity in the aqueous medium.
A pharmaceutical composition, the composition comprising a liposome in an aqueous medium, wherein the liposome comprises an interior space that:
- 1) is aqueous, 2) is separated from the aqueous medium by a membrane comprised of one or more lipids, and 3) contains sucrose octasulfate polyanion and a cationic antimicrobial or antiprotozoal agent.
