Exhaust aftertreatment packaging for a diesel genset

A diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) injection section for an exhaust aftertreatment system for a diesel-powered genset, including:

• a housing having an inlet region, an outlet region, and a first diameter;
• a stationary upstream mixer to increase turbulence of exhaust entering the inlet region, the upstream mixer including:
• a tubular core having a central axis generally centered with respect to the inlet region of housing, where the tubular core is adapted to allow a uniform flow of exhaust gases along a central axis of the housing;
• and
• a plurality of mixing blades extending from the core;
• a stationary downstream mixer to increase turbulence of the exhaust exiting the outlet region, the downstream mixer including:
• a solid core having a diameter and a central axis generally centered with respect to the outlet of housing;
• a plurality of mixing blades extending from the core;
• and
• a baffle having a diameter greater than the diameter of the core on a downstream side of the blades;
• and
• a DEF injector to inject DEF into the turbulent exhaust in the housing between the upstream and downstream mixers, wherein the DEF injector is adapted to spray DEF from a distal end of the DEF injector, and where the distal end of the DEF injector is adapted to be placed in the housing in or proximate to the uniform flow of exhaust gases along the central axis of the housing.
