Abstract
A directed-energy irradiating apparatus invention includes a switch which selects one of an FEL apparatus and an HPM apparatus to be supplied with microwave based on external environmental data. A target is destroyed even in a situation that a destruction effect by a FEL beam cannot be expected, while maintaining the destruction ability for the target by the FEL beam.
Claims17
A directed-energy irradiating apparatus comprising:
- a free electron laser (FEL) apparatus configured to accelerate free electrons by using microwave, and irradiate a FEL beam generated from the accelerated free electrons to each of targets;
- a high power microwave (HPM) apparatus configured to irradiate an HPM beam generated based on the microwave, to each target;
- and
- a control unit configured to select at least one of the FEL beam and the HPM beam as directed-energy to be irradiated based on external environmental data.
